Getting upset about an affair
|
Now this may seem like an odd thing to speak about. But, one of my good friends was hurt that his GF was having an affair.
Now my pre programmed instinct was to think, man that is rotten, how could she do that to you etc.
But then I actually thought a little deeper and thought, actually, what is he getting all upset about?
Surely she is entitled to sleep with who she likes?
There is no ownership involved here. You cannot have love if you have wanting or feel possession of someone.
Then I got deeper and thought that if you think about it even more, it's absurd to get attached to anything with a physical form because nothing of physcial form lasts.
Now you maybe thinking mumbo jumbo, and we are all programmed in society to think that you must get upset when someone has a fuck with someone else, but is it actually necessary? Sex is only even made to be a big deal by society, by business, by advertising by the church, it isn't really anything much.
And how can someone else upset you? It's like impossible, only you can upset you.
Anyway, in the end I told him to get a grip of himself and find someone else if that is what he wants

Re Ayahuasca
It doesn't really open the doors of perception so much as when you're on it, it makes gibberish make sense!

Going to go out on limb and say its wrong and people should feel bad if they do it and people can feel upset if it is done to them.
However you think we got there, there is ample evidence that shows we are different than the closest animals. So we can act different with a little effort.
We make commitments to each, from marriage to friends, the world would be be place if we took them more seriously not less.
So if someone cannot resist the urge to have sex with another person (which I don't buy), then at least have the decency to break up with who you are with first.

You can forget us evolving as a species until they have legalised the very good shit you are clearly on there, mate.

This has got the mental juices flowing(more like a trickle perhaps maybe due to lack of cells)
Are we still evolving ? We should be or at least expect to learn more . . . .
An example . . . hear me out . . . . There was a day when fire and electricity didn't exist, or was it that it was always there just man’s ability to tap into the knowledge the knowhow of how to start a fire , work out how electricity works . . .
My feeling there is lots more to explore and find out about our universe . . . .given the time , the intelligence etc. etc.
Our minds are surely the next stage of evolution, telepathy interests me , is something in coincidence , having a strong sense? Anyway this is open to lots of slagging off ha ha ha
Our current status quo, our current way of life, the state frown upon such suggestions we are conditioned now not to question Things . . . .
Where am I going with this . . . bah . . . . * stubs joint out , and lays down . . . .
To infinity and beyond . . . . . man

We are species of great ape, but intrinsically different.
Whether we should experience sexual jealousy or not is by the by.
The fact is we often do.

Turan is of course right but I suspect he is trolling.
Great Apes share partners...we intrinsically are no different.
Having said that I would go spastic if I found out my missus had been on the loose.

How daft, of course it hurts, acts of betrayal from people you trust always do.
Maybe one day, if one of your imaginary girlfriends runs away with one of your imaginary friends, you'll realise that too.

When I went to Doncaster for a weekend with the lads one of the boys got with a married woman. We had rented a room in a hostel so we gave him 30 minutes (some of the boys burst in after 5 lol) with her. She then went back to her husband.
She was grim though

"..we are able now, as individuals, to exercise control over our feelings and the way we behave"
Depends on each person though we're not equal, some people have much greater control over emotional responses and some are just plain knee jerkers with very little control over emotion reaction.
The fact that we can communicate and control emotional reaction is what makes us human beings.

You're talking about having babies, which is slowing down in the developed countries, but everyone still wants and needs their oats regularly....or at least to get off on a wank instead.

From a unpromising original post this thread appears to have raised an interesting discussion point.
While I would not disagree that the biological imperative is always lurking in the background I do wonder to what degree it influences modern life - not the meanderings of those who pontificate about existence - but the extent to which our brief lives on the planet is driven by the need to reproduce.
As time passes it would seem that (at least for people in developed countries) there are more distractions (such as the desire to make money) and safeguards which reduce the urge or necessity to procreate. Countries like Japan and Singapore being interesting examples where the reluctance to reproduce has resulted in official policy in an attempt to reverse the trend.
Just an observation but it does appear to me that the biological imperative needs to up its game again in some quarters.
